Course Overview :

• The course is a 5 month course and focuses on improving your reading, written, speaking and listening skills. In general the exam is made up of two one hour papers on reading and writing and an oral assessment.
• The awarding body for the Skills for Life qualification is Trinity College whose grades conform with the Council of Europe Framework for languages, and therefore to international standards. It is also accredited with the QCA (Qualification and Curriculum Authority).
• The ESOL Skills for Life syllabus will cover the following topics:

• To speak clearly and with appropriate clarity in order to be understood;
• To use formal language during formal situations;
• To be able to ask specific questions and make requests in order to obtain required information;
• Clarify and confirm understanding using a variety of strategic methods;
• To be able explain and describe events;
• Learn how to make relevant contributions to discussions;
• Learn how to be effective listeners in different contexts;
• Recognise and understand organisational features in different types of text;
• Recognise and understand relevant specialist key words;
• Read and understand words and phrases commonly used in the English Language;
• Plan and draft a piece of legible text using correct grammar, punctuation and chronological sequencing.
