| The Postgraduate
dental nursing course currently being provided
at Temp Dent is the Oral
Health Education Certificate.
There are many reasons to undertake the Postgraduate
dental nursing course in Oral Health Education,
some of them being;
o To be able to provide OHE to patients at
your practice, or even to groups of people .
o If you work within a Primary Health Care Trust
you may be able to obtain a position as an Oral
Health Educator
o Better job prospects. i.e. Private or specialised
dentistry.
o Commitment to Continuous Professional Development
(CPD,) of which all dental nurses will need
to provide evidence for with Statutory Registration.
o The Oral Health Education course will provide
you with insight & skills associated in
both becoming a tutor or a Dental Hygienist,
and may prove to be a stepping stone into either
of the courses.
The Oral Health Education Certificate
is one of the few available Postgraduate Qualifications.
The awarding body is the National Examining Board
for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) www.nebdn.org.
The Criteria for the Oral Health Education course
is;
o You are a qualified dental nurse (either
National Certificate or NVQ level 3)
The OHE course consists of:
o 7 month course.
o 2 intakes per year. (February & July)
o Evening classes
o Consists of a written exam & you will
also need to undertake a Teaching Observation
and a Case study (project.)
o Exam held every March & September

in July 2008, February & July 2009
Tempdent are now delivering The Certificate in Dental Radiography (awarding body NEBDN) for a duration of 8 months. You will need to attend our North London training centre for one evening per week between 6.30 and 9.30pm. In order to achieve the qualification you will need to complete a Record of Experience (ROE) & sit a negatively marked, multiple choice exam at the end of your course which will either be the first Friday in June or December. Your dentist must be willing to allow you to take radiographs of patients and to supervise you throughout (or have other qualified personnel such as a Therapist, Hygienist or qualified Dental Nurse in Radiography to do so).
OThe Record of Experience consists of verified competence in the taking of fifty radiographs to include:
• At least ten dental panoramic
• Ten pairs of bitewings
• Paralleling technique for periapical radiographs
The remainder will be largely dependent upon the learner’s practice, but should include a minimum of two of each of the following:
• Bisected angle technique periapicals
• Occlusal views
• Cephalometric lateral skull views
In addition you will also have to complete:
• Three case studies, each of approximately 1000 words each, relating to the taking of a dental panoramic, a bitewing and a paralleling technique periapical radiograph.
• A written exercise in the taking and processing of oblique lateral radiographs.
