At Tempdent, we recognise the importance of truly understanding our learners right from the start. Our enhanced onboarding process ensures every apprentice receives the support they need to succeed, progress confidently, and contribute effectively to your dental practice.
What we’re changing and why it benefits you

What we’re doing: Richer onboarding conversations about wellbeing, learning preferences, confidence and barriers. Impact: Learners feel supported from day one, leading to higher enagement and fewer early leavers.

Smarter, more adaptive skills scans
What we’re doing: A clearer, upgraded skills scan that accurately identifies strenths and prior learning experince. Impact: Learners start at the right level, leading to faster progress and reduced training time where possible.

Early identification of support needs
What we’re doing: Spotting learning gaps, maths and english needs, confidence issues or communication challenges early. Impact: We close gaps before they become problems, helping apprentices perform better, sooner and complete apprenticeships on time.

Targeted extra support in the first 3-6 months
What we’re doing: Increasing coaching frequency or offering extra sessions where needed. Impact: Higher retention, reduced recruitment costs, and a more confident, capable apprentice for your practice.

Clearer alignment between the employer, learner and Tempdent
What we’re doing: Bringing you into the onboarding conversation so everyone starts aligned. Impact: Better communication → smoother training journey → fewer delays or misunderstandings.
We have strengthened our initial assessment to gain a deeper understanding of each learner’s:
- Wellbeing and personal circumstances
- Learning preferences
- Confidence levels
- Barriers to learning
- Existing skills and prior learning (RPLE)
This allows us to bespoke every programme, ensuring the right support is delivered at the right time so learners –
and your practice-benefit from day one.

What we may ask from a practice
To ensure your apprentice receives effective, timely support, we may request:
- Release time for additional maths or English sessions
- Support for increased coaching frequency in the first 3–6 months where confidence or communication barriers
exist - Simple workplace adjustments to reduce barriers to learning
- Input during tripartite reviews to discuss progress, support needs and development opportunities
- Cooperation with intervention plans if a learner begins to fall behind

Your commitment to us
To help us deliver the best possible experience for your apprentice, we ask that employers:
- Release learners more frequently during intervention periods so they can attend targeted support sessions
- Attend tripartite reviews (or nominate a colleague) to collaboratively support progress
- Provide a workplace mentor or supportive colleague who can guide, encourage, and help the apprentice apply their new skills in practice
