A message from our CEO

“We are incredibly proud of the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. Being recognised as operating at a strong standard represents a significant step forward for Tempdent. Under Ofsted’s previous grading system, this would be considered a move from ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding’, reflecting our focus on quality and exceptional learner experience.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our colleagues, the commitment of our apprentices, and the strength of our employer partnerships across the dental sector. We remain focused on continuous improvement and on delivering best in class training that supports our learners to succeed and progress in their careers.”

— Lorraine Nadel, CEO, Tempdent

Understanding Ofsted’s new inspection judgements

Ofsted has recently introduced a revised inspection framework, moving away from the single overall grade (such as “Outstanding” or “Good”) to a more detailed assessment of different areas of provision.

Instead of one headline grade, providers are now evaluated across key areas, including:

  • Leadership and governance
  • Quality of education and training
  • Achievement and outcomes for learners
  • Inclusion and support

Each area is judged using the following scale:

  • Exceptional – practice of the highest national standard
  • Strong standard – above the expected level
  • Expected standard – meeting required standards
  • Needs attention – improvements are required
  • Urgent improvement – immediate action is needed

This new approach provides a more transparent and balanced view of a provider’s strengths and areas for development, giving learners, employers, and stakeholders a clearer understanding of performance.

In our latest inspection, we are proud to have been recognised as operating at a strong standard, reflecting the high quality of our training, leadership, and learner experience – this would previously have been an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted grade.
