This programme focuses on delivering excellence in the day-to-day Dental Receptionist role, aligned to the Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard and enhanced with sector-specific dental content.
Based on extensive consultation with dental employers and sector experts, the programme develops confident, capable Dental Receptionists who can support patient care, navigate clinical pathways and drive measurable benefits for practices.

Learners will gain an understanding of key organisational policies, relevant dental legislation, and essential internal procedures. Completion of the programme also develops core dental‑specific skills needed to confidently perform the role of a Dental Receptionist within your practice. These include elements of patient communication and foundational dental knowledge.
Who is this course for?
The Dental Reception Excellence Level 2 Apprenticeship is designed for anyone beginning or developing their career as a Dental Receptionist and for practices looking to strengthen front‑of‑house capability.
This programme was co‑designed with dental employers who identified key gaps in dental knowledge, commercial awareness and workplace professionalism. The apprenticeship directly addresses these areas to enhance patient experience, team coordination, and commercial performance.

What will you learn?
You’ll learn the essential skills needed to excel as a Dental Receptionist, including confident patient communication, customer experience, and maintaining professional phone and email etiquette. The programme also builds understanding of dental terminology, treatment pathways, referrals, and the differences between NHS, private and mixed practices.
Learners will also build commercial awareness while strengthening professionalism through good information governance and effective communication with clinicians and managers. Finally, the programme helps develop resilience and wellbeing strategies, such as managing patient pressure and navigating fast‑paced reception environments.
