Trigeminal Nerve
This course explores the anatomy and physiology of the trigeminal nerve and its three major divisions, examines common trigeminal disorders, and discusses the clinical implications of nerve injury during dental procedures. Learners will also review evidence-based approaches to diagnosing and managing trigeminal neuralgia, including medication, minimally invasive interventions, and surgical therapies.
Outcomes
Describe Trigeminal Nerve Anatomy.
Identify common clinical signs and symptoms of trigeminal nerve disorders, such as neuralgia, neuropathy, and sensory deficits.
Understand the potential consequences of trigeminal nerve injury during common dental procedures (e.g., extractions, root canal treatments, local anaesthesia).
Explain treatment options for trigeminal neuralgia, including pharmacological, surgical, and non-invasive therapies.
Aims
The aim of this module is to educate about the anatomy of the trigeminal nerve, related disorders and possible injuries during dental treatment.
