This module explores why legislation and control for ionising radiation needs to be in place, what legislations relate to ionising radiation, what the role of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) is, and what dose limitation, justification and optimisation are.

- Know the legislation for protection of staff, patients and the environment
- Know what dose limitation, justification and optimisation are
- Understand the principles of ALARP
- Know what the role of the ICRP is in recommendations for legislation

Aims
The overall aim of this module is to understand the importance of complying with legislation and contemporary guidance relating to the environment, facilities and equipment required for dental radiography.
