Jeremy Dean raises over £1,100 for Dentaid

On Sunday, 30th July, our Operations Manager, Jeremy Dean and his Dad under took the mammoth task of cycling 100 miles in the Prudential Ride London cycling race. He completed the race in a fantastic time of 6.5 hours. Now almost a week later, his muscles no longer ache and he is fully recovered, we took the opportunity to interview him and ask him some post-race questions.

Q: What did you do to prepare the night before?

A: The night before my Father and I went out for a really carb heavy meal.  We went to a local Italian place and ate as much pasta and protein as possible, and drank a few pints as well, to give us “Dutch courage”.

Q: On the day of the race, were your nervous? If so, were what did you do to combat your nerves?

A: I was really nervous, the night before and the day of the race.  I did not sleep much the night before, and there was a really bad storm, which did not help.  I had to be up at 4:30am, to be out by 5am, as the start line was a 5 mile cycle down the road.

Q: What was the hardest part of the race?

A: There were a few moments, that I found hard.  Firstly, I had to wait an hour and a half to start, which did not help with the nerves.  After that it was definitely Leith Hill.  It was not the longest hill, but definitely the steepest, it just gets steeper and steeper all the way to the top.  There were quite a few crashes on it, which meant they stopped you at the bottom, to go up in waves, which killed any momentum, which made it even harder.

Q: Was there ever a point that you thought that were not going to finish the race?

A: I had to follow my Father for the last 30 miles, as I was so tired, but I knew we would get round.  There was no way we would not complete.

Q: Were you pleased with your time? What time did you think you were going to finish the race?

A: To be honest, I was just glad we got round.  We completed in 6.5 hours, which I’m told is not a bad time.

Q: Would you ever do this race again?

A: I don’t think I would do this race again, but it has definitely wet my appetite for other races.

Q: How much money did you raise for the charity?

A: So far we have raised £1,100 and there is still a bit more to come in, so I am really happy and thankful for all the support we have received.

My Father and I would like thank everyone who has supported us throughout this.  All of our friends, colleagues and families, have contributed so much, and not just through donations, so once again thank you all.

If you would like to still sponsor Jeremy, he is raising money for Dentaid, which is Tempdent’s Charity of 2017. The money we are raising this year will go to purchase a mobile dental unit, that will be shipped to a 3rd world African nation.
