This module of the dental radiography CPD topic concentrates on extra-oral radiography. It will enable you to identify the basic components of the dental x- ray set, the different extra-oral systems, film types and how to care for and maintain intensifying screens and cassettes.

The aims of this module are to understand the principles of extra-oral radiography, the various films and equipment used.

• Identify extra-oral x-ray equipment including basic components of the dental x-ray set and use of timers
• Aware of the different extra-oral systems and film types
• Describe how to care for and maintain intensifying screens and cassettes.
• Understand the principles of digital image production for panoramic radiography, cephalometry and oblique lateral views
• Describe the technique needed to create a Grade 1 extra-oral radiograph in all extra-oral images
• Knowledge of managing the needs of different patients
