The Oral Health Practitioner Apprenticeship is a 14 month government funded course and is comprised of 3 main components. This course is part of our blended learning programme and offers students the chance to complete via our e-learning platform and regional workshops.
3 main course components:
Oral Health Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard
Functional Skills English and Maths Level 2 qualifications (unless exempt)
Integrated End Point Assessment consisting of a multiple choice question exam, observation and professional discussion
Who should attend
To enrol on this course, you must already be a Dental Nurse or other appropriate registered dental care professional with the General Dental Council. You must be working within a dental practice for a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Intakes and venues
We have intakes starting every January, April, July and October.
This is a blended learning course (online and face-to-face regional workshops).

The enrolment process comprises of:
Completing an online application form
Submitting evidence of your passport and previous qualifications
Undertaking a basic Maths and English assessment
Once you have completed your enrolment process, you will be contacted by one of our administrators to confirm your acceptance on to the next course intake.

Course fees
This course will be government funded either through the Employer Levy (for larger employers) or will be fully government funded for 16-18 year old students.
For students 19 years and over the fees will be part funded (95%) by government with the remaining 5% funded by the employer. The employer contribution is £450+vat.

Provides a trajectory for candidates later in their career to a Dental Therapist or Dental Hygienist.
Unlocks a high degree of autonomy within a Oral Health Practitioner role, providing community support and education.
Oral Health Practitioners progress to working within the patient’s mouth. This includes taking bacterial plaque indices, applying fluoride varnish and taking impressions.
Provides experience in the wider health field, working within communities to complete NHS Health Checks to determine risks of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The Oral Health Practitioner will be able to work clinically in their clinical settings, freeing up Dentists, Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists from carrying out oral hygiene instruction and preventative treatments.
Use flexible commissioning to pay for your Oral Health Practitioner to either work in your dental practice, or within community settings such as schools, care homes and community groups, where they can also refer individuals to your dental practice.

Health inequalities and behaviour change
Conduct motivational consultations
Anatomy, physiology, and nutrition for oral health practitioners
Understand clinical practice for oral health practitioners
Carry out oral health practitioner clinical practice
Understand preventative practice for oral health practitioners
Carry out oral health practitioner preventative practice
Understand the role of the oral health practitioner
